Hey guys & gals,
Been a while probably since you heard from me, but I'm trying to
do a little better job now.
I can't quite figure it out, but the trout bite
the last couple of weeks has not been worth a darn!!!! March is a
transition time for our fish, especially trout, and fishing can be
very tuff especially coupled with March weather conditions. I have
fished many area bays in all kinds of weather, on all kinds of structure,
and have come up with very little to show for it while fishing for
trout the last couple of weeks. So, I have resorted to fishing for
red fish & black drum until the trout bite has picked up. April
should turn things around for the trout.
Last week we received some much needed influx of
water to bring our water levels back up. This scattered the red fish
somewhat on the flats, and pushed a lot of them into un-reachable
shallow water back lakes for me. But on the other hand, there are
a lot of red fish up very tight to the shorelines. Best artificial
baits while wade fishing has been paddle tail plastics and spoons.
As for live bait, the best bait has been shrimp & crab. Black
drum have been good too on the reefs
& shorelines while fishing with shrimp or crab.
This past Thursday we had some very high S/E & East
winds (20-40 mph) that had most of our bays very dirty & rough.
I went into a smaller & shallower bay and went back to the basics.
I fished in a way that I have not done in a long time. I started
fishing the shorelines with fresh dead shrimp on bottom!!!! I know
most of you that have fished with me many times are thinking that
this is not my style of fishing, but we ended the day catching near
limits of red fish &
black drum. Now that I have been fishing this way for a couple of
days and figuring the fish out a little more, we are bringing in
full limits of both red fish & drum almost every day. I plan
on fishing this way for the next couple of weeks or so, just until
the trout bite picks up considerably. I'm tired of fishing all day
for a few measly trout for my clients.
