Fishing Report 03/13/06

If you want to catch fish, whether it be redfish or drum, just throw them fresh dead shrimp and hang on. The reds and drum, both puppy drum (keeper size) and the huge drum are all loving fresh dead shrimp. The oversized black drum are still in the ship channel at Ingleside, and the puppy drum are all over the flats in with the redfish. I took Aerich, my 7 year old grandson, out and he fought 3 and that was enough for him. They ranged in the size of 37 1/2 to 40 inches. The smaller legal drum are a really good eating fish. They are great cooked any way you would cook redfish.

I have found reds and drum in South Bay, Morris Cummings, and California Hole as well. I have tried mud minnows and frozen dead shrimp and caught nothing but throw in a fresh dead shrimp you will really see the difference. I have caught some on fresh cut mullet, but they are few and far between right now.

Good catching to you,

Capt. Charlie Newton
