The
expectations of a fine fishing season inshore for both speckled trout
and redfish appear every year like the lengthening of the days. This
year I started fishing a bit earlier in January and it did not live
up to our expectations based on last year. My customer Charlie and
I searched for redfish and trout for 7 hard hours. Hurting our success
rate was a strong and gusty wind of over 20 knots and the incoming
tide. Fishing conditions should of been good but with the confluence
of the NE wind and the incoming tide, the water piled up and we actually
had little water movement. Like a true fisherman I know that the
coming months will see fishing conditions improve and as the water
temp rises, sow speckled trout will be making their appearance as
will redfish inshore. One of my favorite light tackle and fly rod
fishes, Pompano will be showing up off the beaches of Alabama.
