Captain
Susie enjoyed Guiding Charles and Shaya from Austin for their 36th
wedding anniversary fishing trip. It was their first time to fish
the Lower Laguna Madre.
The early morning cruise out the Arroyo Colorado
proved to be quite enjoyable for them as they sighted many beautiful
shorebirds stalking their morning meal. Once out in the bay, a lone
coyote was spotted along the shore as he also stalked his breakfast.
Charles and Shaya had come to fish but also enjoy
birding and seeing a gaggle of Roseate Spoonbills in flight over
the water with the morning sun glistening off their pink spread wings
made the trip all the more rewarding. Even though the wind was howling,
Susie put them on lots of fish on the grass flats and in deep potholes.
They had a great time landing a respectable stringer of both redfish
and speckled trout. The lure of the day, without a doubt was the
Salt and Pepper Bass Assassin with chartreuse tail.
I had the pleasure
of guiding Dr. Sally, her daughter Sarah and Dr. Phillip all from
the Fort Worth area, on Friday and Saturday. Winds gusted up to 35
knots both days, which all but eliminated fly fishing for Phillip
and Sarah. Occasionally, we would try drifting deep potholes but
most of our time was spent sight fishing the crystal clear water
of the white sands. The high winds made it incredibly difficult to
make an accurate cast but plenty of fish were spotted and caught
in spite of the wind. A day after their departure, Dr. Sally sent
me an e-mail with photos. She said “Thank you so much for a
great fishing charter!!! You found lots of fish for us, the boat
was super and we all had a great time!! I look forward to booking
with you for next year!” Sally, Sarah and Philip were a great
group to spend a couple of days with on the water. They were good
sports and dealt with the windy conditions like real troopers. They
fished hard from start to finish each day and I hope they don't wait
a whole year to come back. |
